It is inevitable that sooner or later, our "precious angels" will challenge our authority and power as their parents. Little do they know, we are usually always a step ahead and have the benefit of knowing them better than they know themselves...
My recommendations are to not force or use intimidation to "control" their behavior. Remember, even though we are parents, we still don't have the God given ability to "control" another human beings behavior and attempting this with a strong minded child (such as my own) can potentially have a negative outcome.
When your child challenges your authority, bring it full circle without physical, mental or emotional violence. Be still... And as difficult as it may seem at the time, put yourself in your child's shoes and try to understand what your child needs and what they are seeking to find. It is best to listen first and then exert your authority with understanding and love.
